PROJECT DETAIL

Overview

This farm in the Western Cape mountains needed a large, dedicated water store above ground. A corrugated galvanised steel reservoir gives that storage without building a concrete reservoir: the panels are bolted together on site, and the reservoir can be extended, relined or moved later.

Requirement

A reservoir of this size puts its whole weight on the ground under it, so the base had to be level, firm and free of stones before the first ring went up. The site sits on a slope below the mountains, with wind and heavy rain to plan around.

Our Approach

Damtech prepared the surface first: a levelled, compacted sand base sized to the 12 m footprint. The corrugated steel rings and uprights were then bolted up course by course to a wall height of 2.29 m, with the reservoir liner laid on the prepared base inside the walls.

OUTCOME

Result

The finished reservoir is 12 m across and 2.29 m high, which works out at about 259 000 litres (259 m³) of gross volume. Usable volume depends on the outlet and overflow heights.

  • 12 m diameter × 2.29 m high corrugated galvanised steel reservoir.

  • About 259 m³ (259 000 litres) gross volume.

  • Built on a levelled, compacted sand base prepared by Damtech.

  • Finished with a shade-net roof cover and inlet and outlet pipework connected.

  • Modular steel construction that can be extended or relined later.
